East Grinstead Parent and Toddler Group
Tuesday 5th September 2017
In September Sarah spent the morning at a parent and toddler group at Trinity Methodist Church in East Grinstead. She presented a short talk as a first-time published author and illustrator. She read her book to the children and parents and also helped the children with some drawing activities, which was good fun! There was also time for chatting with the parents and children and to sell a few copies of A Snail’s Tale. Sarah was delighted to be asked to attend the group and very much enjoyed the experience. She received positive feedback and will be making a return visit in November. She also hopes there with be further opportunities to attend other similar groups in the future.
"Such a delightful story which is so positive about us all having gifts and by sharing, everybody benefits. All illustrated simply and colourfully. We bought a book to repeat the experience in the future." - Quote from the organiser of the parent and toddler group.
Barnett’s of Wadhurst – Friday 27th October 2017
The October sun shone and Sarah spent the day at Barnett’s of Wadhurst with her Mum and Dad. It was half term so there were quite a few children to listen to Sarah read from A Snail’s Tale and participation in the art workshop. Great fun was had in drawing snails, rainbows and butterflies. There was also a good number of books sold, so all in all, another successful event at this lovely busy little bookshop. Many thanks to the owner Richard Hardy Smith who was most welcoming.
Monday 27th November 2017 - St Mary’s CE Primary School, East Grinstead. My very first school visit and it went very well indeed, I think! Just awaiting feedback from the school. I worked with three KS1 classes aged between 4-8 who are currently working on an ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ topic so my book about snails fitted in nicely! We started with me reading the first half of A Snail’s Tale to all three classes, about 90 children! After I’d read the first half of the book they went off to their classrooms and had a think about what might happen next. I visited each class and did drawing activities with them and my activity worksheets. After their classroom activities, the three classes reconvened and I heard some of their ideas of what they thought might happen next. Children have such wonderful imaginations! Then I read the rest of the story and we found out what actually happened. Finally, we finished off with a great Q & A session. All the children were delightful, I was so pleased they were interested in me, my book and doing lots of drawings with me.
Saturday 2 November 2017 – Windmill Day Nursery Christmas Fair, East Grinstead. More sales of my craft items and A Snail’s Tale
